Contrada Contro
An authentic Garagiste project from Cupano's winemaker Andrea Polidoro. Contrada Contro was created to save a handful of scattered, old, ungrafted vineyards growing on maple trees, an ancient wine-growing technique. As it is traditional in this area, Contrada Contro farms exclusively local varieties like Malvasia Bianca di Candia, Verdicchio, Maceratino, Santa Maria, Sangiovese and Montepulciano.
Native yeasts fermentations, ample use of ceramic vats, and a fully carried over malolactic fermentation, create truly unique wines, layered with complex aromas, concentration and vibrancy. Farming is organic and biodynamic, and all vineyard operations are painstakingly carried over by hand. Located in the rugged Monti Sibillini, near Macerata in the Marche Region, Contrada Contro has become a cult winery and a symbol of respect and love for the oldest wine-growing traditions.
