La Capuccina

Located in Cureggio (Novara, Piedmont) La Capuccina is a marvelous “Cascina” (an old, renovated farmhouse), hosting the restaurant and agriturismo owned by Raffaella Zanetta and her late Husband Gianluca. Soon after opening their restaurant, inspired by the passion for the native grapes of their land, Raffaella and Gianluca set out to make their own wine. They acquired two small vineyards in the rolling hills of the nearby Fara DOC, one of the tiny appellations in the Alto Piemonte area, planted exclusively with Nebbiolo and Vespolina. In continuing with Gianluca's vision, Raffaella is a firm believer in sustainable agriculture and refrains from using synthetic chemicals, both in her vineyards and in the garden that supplies all the produces for her kitchen. As with with la Capuccina's cuisine, which aims at the purity and wholesomeness of the flavors and is based entirely on natural, local products and ingredients, Raffaella has a very non-interventionist approach to her wines. All wines are fermented spontaneously with native yeasts, and only large Slavonian oak “botti” are used for aging. With the aid of her vineyard manager & cellar master, Raffaella is carrying forward Gianluca's vision of crafting elegant, refined wines that are precise, clear examples of the grape varieties of Alto Piemonte.

Available Wines:

  • La Capuccina Alto Piemonte Wine Vespolina

    "Novarina" Vespolina Colline Novaresi DOC

100% organically grown Vespolina, a native grape of Alto Piemonte. Perhaps distantly related to Nebbiolo, Vespolina is known for bright acidity, lots of black pepper aromas and firm tannins. Fermented with native yeasts in stainless steel and aged in French oak tonneaux, where it undergoes the malolactic fermentation.

  • La Capuccina Alto Piemonte Wines Nebbiolo Faren

    "Faren" Nebbiolo Colline Novaresi DOC

100% organically grown Nebbiolo, hand harvested from estate owned vineyards. This is a softer and more approachable Nebbiolo than the Langhe’s version, delivering lots of juicy berry aromas complemented by fine herbs and a hint of licorice. Fermented with native Yeats in stainless steel, and aged 12 months in Pauscha Slavonian oak barrels where it undergoes a spontaneous malolactic fermentation.

  • La Capuccina Alto Piemonte Wines Nebbiolo Opera32

"Opera 32" Nebbiolo Colline Novaresi DOC

100% organically grown Nebbiolo. Made from a selection of the very best clusters during the harvest, which is carried over by hand. Fermented with native yeasts in stainless steel and aged 24 months on large (25hl) Pauscha Slavonian oak vats. This is a deliciously elegant and finely crafted expression of Nebbiolo, showing all the vibrant character of Alto Piemonte.
